ASPECT Tracks BP Spill

Several months ago NOWCC featured SEE Enrollee, Mike Mulligan, in his role with the ASPECT team on our Enrollee Spotlight  at /about/spotlight/view.aspx .  Billed as “EPA’s flying laboratory,” ASPECT is a twin engine aircraft designed to assist in the collection of air sampling data, as well as photo documentation of environmental incidents.  It is the only resource of its kind on call 24/7.

ASPECT has recently been deployed to the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico where it is providing vital information on the spill to EPA and to the public via Google Earth.  To find out more about ASPECT and to track the oil spill, log on to the EPA’s website at http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/epa.html
