Michael M. Durkin Announces Retirement

It is hard to imagine NOWCC without Mike Durkin but he has announced his retirement which will be effective April 1, 2010.  After completing a distinguished career of 24 years with AARP, Mr. Durkin joined NOWCC as Field Coordinator shortly after its inception in 1997.  Mike later became a member of the Executive Leadership Team serving as NOWCC Director of South Central Field Operations in Dallas, Texas.  In that capacity Mike managed NOWCC’s support for the SEE Program for EPA Regions 4, 5, 6, and 7, as well as the newer ACES Program in 12 states.

Mike received a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science, with an emphasis in aging studies, from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  He served in the United States Army between his undergraduate and graduate studies. 

We wish Mike a very happy ‘next chapter’ in retirement and know that for Mike, retirement will definitely not include rocking chair time.  Hats off to Mike Durkin for an illustrious career spent working with and on behalf of older Americans.  NOWCC is a better place because of his energy and passion.
